DevOps Engineer

This is an opportunity to optimize and build the best development operations infrastructure, tools, and processes possible for an existing Launch Potato email program. You’ll work closely with our Engineering and Product Teams to scale email deliverability, optimize costs, and increase ultimately revenue.

This position is based out of our Delray Beach office or remote. The ideal candidate is interested in learning the ins and outs of a digital marketing business.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Manage and administer Linux servers and networked environments for high availability and scalability

• Identify, monitor, and track key operational metrics, including performance, utilization, throughput, etc.

• Support development and extending the platform in the cloud

• Take ownership of all aspects of a variety of DevOps tasks and challenges

• Design and implement systems to monitor the DevOps toolchain

• Work directly with server vendors; own and report on infrastructure expenses on weekly/monthly/quarter basis

• Respond to alerts; troubleshoot problems identified in builds, setup generation, release QA and general QA on a daily basis

• Identify new opportunities to optimize costs through regular analysis

• Create tools to automate support tasks

• Resolve complex issues, conduct research, and recommend solutions

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• At least 2 years hands-on experience in server administration and Linux; thorough understanding of distributed systems and the protocols they use, including TCP/IP, HTTP

• Experience implementing networking services; deep understanding of networking concepts

• Understanding of large, high performance, highly scalable, highly resilient server-based architectures including replication/failover, distributed architectures, caches, auto scaling, sharding, rate limiting, and security

• Scripting and programing skills in Python or bash

• Experience with open source technologies and cloud services

• Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, EBS)

• Experience with testing one’s own implementations

• Excellent problem solving and debugging skills

• Familiarity with build automation

• Appreciates quality tools and systems and has great desire to learn new tools, technologies, and skills

• Self-starter who loves making an impact and has a collaborative, upbeat, solutions-oriented attitude

• Very hands-on; extremely detail and task-oriented

• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance multiple projects simultaneously in a startup atmosphere

• Excellent and proactive communication

AVAILABILITY

Normal team work hours are roughly 10am-5pm ET M-F. However, DevOps is a mission-critical part of our business and you'll be expected to be monitoring and troubleshooting as needed, including earlier in the morning, later at night, and on weekends.

Additionally, we are a distributed digital team and there may be late/early meetings due to different time zones. We always try to work with everyone's schedules but at times there may be meetings earlier in the morning and later at night.

We communicate throughout the day using Slack and several times a week using Google Hangouts. You'll be expected to actively participate in these discussions and be an active, awesome contributing member of our team!

KNOW THESE? EVEN BETTER!

• Experience in developing Java/C++ backend systems

• Managing Database systems, relational and otherwise

• Can formulate complex SQL queries

• Ideally 3+ years working with complex software systems and infrastructure system/devops
